How to Master Your Mindset for Marketing Your Vegan Business

What if I told you that the single most powerful tool in marketing isn’t a fancy funnel, expensive ads, or a perfectly curated social media presence—but something inside you?

That’s right—your mindset can be the secret ingredient to your marketing success. Why? Because at its best, your mindset takes you from feeling invisible and fearing being seen to becoming an inspiration to many and an unstoppable force for the good you want to do on this planet.

As a vegan entrepreneur, your mission is everything. It fuels you. But when it comes to marketing that mission and sharing your story, things often get tricky. There’s resistance, fear of judgement creeps in, imposter syndrome takes over, and suddenly, visibility feels like the scariest thing in the world. Sound familiar? You’re not alone: I’ve been there, done that, and I’m still working on it.

I love geeking out on mindset because I’ve come to realize that, as business owners, our minds can be our best friend or our worst enemy. That’s why I’m so passionate about the topic of mindset in marketing. The way you think is everything. In growing my business, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges when it comes to showing up, being seen, and confidently sharing my message. I used to be terrified of visibility, and not that many years ago, I wouldn’t have dared to dream of regularly showing up on social media.

So let’s explore why mindset is so important in marketing, and how you can shift your beliefs to start showing up boldly and authentically.

First, let’s talk about the fear of visibility—because it’s something so many (new) business owners struggle with

When I first started my business, I really struggled with visibility. I barely had a social media presence, even though I knew that I needed one. After all, if you’re not visible, how can anyone find you, and how can you effectively market yourself? The first time I tried to change this was in 2022. As part of the Reign Mastermind, I chose visibility as my guiding word for the year, determined to finally make a shift.

I decided to start posting on Instagram and gathered enough courage to write an introductory post in February… and then, crickets. I went invisible again. In August 2022, I finally decided to challenge myself with a 30-day social media challenge, posting daily on Instagram and LinkedIn. I announced the challenge to keep myself accountable.

The first post was a real struggle—it was the first time I put my face on social media, and I felt nauseous after hitting the publish button. But by the end of the week, the fear started to fade, and I realised that what once felt so scary was no longer a big deal. For me, this challenge became a turning point in overcoming my fear of being seen, and I got a lot of positive feedback and new connections from people who resonated with my story.

This right here is the first post I shared…

What you can learn from my story? Well, if I was able to do it, you can absolutely do it too. Overcoming the fear of visibility isn’t something that happens overnight, but it’s totally possible with the right mindset and small, consistent steps.

My journey from being terrified to post a single photo to completing a 30-day visibility challenge shows that the fear doesn’t last forever. The more you show up, the easier it becomes—and soon, what once felt terrifying becomes second nature. Trust me, I’m living proof.

Mindset is the missing piece in marketing

To me, fear of visibility is a perfect example of a mindset issue. When you’re afraid of being seen, what are you really afraid of? Think about the last time you hesitated to send out an email, apply to speak on a podcast, post on social media, or talk about your services. What was truly holding you back? Often, it’s fear—fear of rejection, fear of judgment, or fear of failure.

The fear of making a mistake is especially interesting when you think about it. After all, that’s how humans learn—it’s literally how we learn everything as children. Why not reframe your fear of making mistakes into an expectation to learn from every experience? Pretty much all the fears you have as an entrepreneur are just in your mind. You’re not actually under threat. Somewhere along the way, we were taught to fear making mistakes, doing the wrong thing, or someone not liking us. But the truth is, you can challenge those thoughts and reframe them in a way that aligns with your mission.

And when it comes to the fear of hearing ‘no’… what’s so bad about it, really? There are countless ways to reframe a ‘no’: not right now, not yet, not this person, maybe later. And my favourite: every ‘no’ gets you closer to a ‘yes.’ I’m sure you can think of many more ways to look at it.

The way I understand mindset, especially when it comes to marketing, is that it’s about the attitudes, beliefs, and stories you tell yourself about yourself, your impact, and your business. It’s also about the meaning you give to what happens to you—whether it’s a success or a setback. What you believe is possible can either empower you to take bold action or hold you back.

Imposter syndrome also stops many amazing ethical entrepreneurs from marketing their businesses. I’ve been there too, and I know how debilitating it can be. Even after earning two copywriting certifications and receiving great feedback on my work, I still felt like I wasn’t ready. I kept thinking, ‘If I just take one more course, I’ll feel ready.’ But of course, I didn’t. Things only started to change when I realized, ‘Oh, I’ll be waiting forever if I keep waiting for that feeling.’

Reframe how you think: ready is a decision, not a feeling, and confidence comes from doing

I can tell you that every time I’ve taken a scary leap into the unknown, I’ve made the most progress (hello, starting a YouTube channel with my friend, and hello, working as a coach for one of the top copywriters in her signature program).

What has also helped me with showing up is that I don’t focus on myself but on the mission. Yes, my visibility and story are important, but they are also a vehicle for my mission—for a more ethical, sustainable future. That’s why it’s important that I take space.

I’m still a pretty shy, introverted person, and visibility isn’t necessarily about me—it’s about the impact I want to make.

If you feel like your mindset is holding you back—amazing! Awareness is the first step. To change it, you need two things: take baby steps and be consistent. Here are a few mindset shifts that have helped me market my business:

  1. Reframe visibility as service: Instead of seeing visibility as self-promotion, see it as serving your mission. When you show up online, you’re not just promoting your business—you’re sharing valuable insights, helping others, and making an impact. Your voice is important not only because it is yours and unique, but because your ideal people and mission need your voice.

  1. Imperfect action beats perfect inaction: You don’t need to wait until everything is perfect to start. Your first reel, post, or email doesn’t need to be flawless. People don’t remember your mistakes or stumbles—if anything, it makes you more relatable.

  1. Your why is stronger than your fear: Whenever you feel afraid to show up, go back to your “why.” Why did you start your business? When your why is stronger than your fear, you’ll find the courage to keep going, even on tough days.

  1. Surround yourself with supportive people: You don’t have to do this alone. In fact, you shouldn’t try to do this alone. Find a community—whether that’s fellow vegan entrepreneurs, mentors, or accountability buddies. Support is essential in overcoming mindset hurdles.

Actionable tips to shift your mindset:

  1. Start small: You don’t have to overhaul your entire marketing strategy overnight. Start by committing to one small action, like posting one authentic piece of content this week. Even if it’s just sharing a personal story or insight.

  1. Journal through the fear: Write down your fears around visibility and marketing. Then, challenge those beliefs. Ask yourself, “Is this true?” You’ll be surprised at how often your fears are based on assumptions, not facts.

  1. Celebrate small wins: Did you post your first reel? Start your email list? Finally create that lead magnet? Celebrate that! Recognising small wins helps build momentum and shifts your mindset from fear to confidence.

  1. Create a visibility routine: Consistency is key. Whether it’s once a week or every day, create a visibility routine that works for you. The more consistent you are, the less scary it becomes and the more you’ll see results.

Once you shift your beliefs and get more comfortable being seen, you’ll find that marketing your purpose-driven business feels less like a chore and more like an act of purpose.
